Recognizing the needs of our clients, HMH established a Utility Design division with a highly skilled professional team armed with the knowledge and experience to handle all utility applications. Joint Trench Design is an increasingly complex discipline that plays a very important role in the success of your project. The coordination of the "Dry Utilities" requires a proactive management approach with the utility companies while maintaining a high level of collaboration and coordination efforts with the project team consultants. Our mission is to provide our clients with approved high quality construction plans that are both cost effective and constructible while keeping within the schedule of the project.

Preliminary Planning and Consulting

Understanding the utility needs for your project is a very important part in the design development stage of a project. Prior to proceeding with the actual final design and engineering, we will engage the "dry utility" providers and establish the location and availability of existing facilities surrounding the site. We can develop a master utility plan or conceptual plan reflecting the potential requirements for each utility provider while working closely with the project team to understand the designs of the involved disciplines (civil, architectural and landscape design). Integral utility planning with the project team allows for a smooth transition into final design, avoids potential construction conflicts and allows for future considerations of a project.

Joint Trench Composite Design

Today’s projects are becoming increasing complex and congested. HMH Joint Trench Composite Designs reflect the requirements of the utility providers while maintaining the integrity of the team project designs into a single reference exhibit for our clients, involved agencies, the contractor and team consultants. Careful attention and extensive coordination is required to determine utility box and trench locations. As previously stated, our mission is to provide our clients with approved high quality construction plans that are both cost effective and constructible while keeping within the schedule of the project.

PG&E Electric & Gas Design

HMH’s staff of highly experienced PG&E Applicant Designers has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the current PG&E Gas and Electric design standards and practices. They provide our clients with efficient and well thought out designs taking into consideration the needs of our clients and their individual projects. Our highly detailed gas and electric designs are contractor friendly allowing for a smooth bidding and installation process.

Street Lighting Design

Our extensive experience in street lighting design enables us to meet all our clients’ street lighting needs. We work closely with the project team in coordinating street light locations while maintaining the requirements of the governing agencies. From circuitry design and photometric calculations to the preparation and submittal of street lighting plans for city approval, HMH can meet all your street lighting needs.

Bid Package Preparation

Choosing the right contractor plays a vital role in the success of your project. The bid package that HMH prepares is very thorough and detailed, assuring our clients of an "apples to apples" comparison of the potential contractors’ proposals. Our packages include all the necessary utility plans and specifications as well as an itemized description of the trenching, box excavations and materials needed for a complete installation allowing for a well informed decision when choosing a contractor.
